Mandelson to announce an extra bank holiday in 2012

It is being widely rumoured that Lord Mandelson is to announce an extra bank holiday in the UK in 2012 to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee. Her Majesty will have her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 when the Queen will also be celebrating her 86th birthday.

It is not known yet what date the Government and the Palace will choose as Her Majesty's birthday is on the 21st April and began her reign on 6 February 1952 whilst her coronation was held on 2 June 1953.

London and the UK as a whole will of course be gripped by the Olympics being held in London between 27 July and 12 Aug 2012 and Paralympic Games 29 Aug and 9 Sept 2012
