Cass Entrepreneurship Fund invests in mobile technology company Flypost

Flypost is a modern take on ‘flyposters’ which are advertisements posted in public promoting both large and small events, such as concerts, theatre performances, yoga classes, lectures, or simply a promotion on at a venue, shop or restaurant.  The company’s products uniquely blend time and geo-location information, enabling consumers to view events, or promotions, which are happening around them in real time.

The Cass Entrepreneurship Fund is a new £10m investment fund providing finance for start-up and early stage companies across the Cass Business School community.  The Fund was created with the support of Peter Cullum, a high profile Cass MBA Alumnus and the Founder and Executive Chairman of insurance group Towergate.

The Fund forms part of the Peter Cullum Centre for Entrepreneurship at Cass Business School, which is part of City University London.  It provides a focal point for entrepreneurs at Cass, offering access to entrepreneurship teaching programmes and venture capital expertise, as well as the opportunity to apply for investment.

Flypost has been incubated at the Centre for Entrepreneurship since 2009 when Leon Crutchley, CEO of Flypost and Cass MBA alumnus, founded the business and set up his development team.

The technology behind the product takes an extensive international database of events around the world with full geocoding – the process of finding associated geographic coordinates from other geographic data, such as street addresses, or postal codes.

The company is also supported by John Taysom, Founder Chairman of We7, who is an investor and advisor to Flypost.  Other advisors include Hussain Kanji, previously of Microsoft and Accel Partners; Chris Howard, Head of Product Development at Digg; and Rene Ho, Head of JPM Corporate Training.

Nick Badman, Chair of the Centre for Entrepreneurship at Cass, commented: “Flypost is an exciting new player in the tech world with unrivalled access to convergence of time and location data.  We have been thrilled to support and observe the development of Flypost’s business strategy over the past two years and hope that our investment helps to propel the company to international success.”

Leon Crutchley, CEO and Founder of Flypost, commented: “Having the resources of the Peter Cullum Centre for Entrepreneurship has been invaluable for us as we start our business. The office space has allowed us to operate efficiently as a team and the prestige of being associated with the fund has really helped us generate momentum. On top of this we’ve benefited from the strategic advice of very experienced members of the venture capital community.”
