What was the inspiration behind your business?

I began my successful finance career in March 1996 at Citi. In September 2008 I moved to Lloyds Banking Group holding several roles, including within the Commercial Banking and Insurance divisions before leaving in December 2017 when I had the opportunity to realise my long held ambition to offer a truly independent, whole of market consultancy services and founded Aspires Finance.

Who do you admire?

I would say a very dear friend of mine, because she was diagnosed with Lung cancer and at that time she was given 12/18 months to live. How she worked her way through this time was truly remarkable, whilst still continuing her voluntary work at a local Alice Hospice centre. She was a great example of strength and determination that I am unsure I would have had. I would like to add that she is still with us 7 years later, which is amazing and as I am sure you would agree she is a little miracle.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?

Two years in, there isn’t anything at present I would have done differently, maybe started my own business a little earlier than I have.

What defines your way of doing business?

Unbiased recommendations and impartial guidance based directly on my client’s needs and goals, whilst building an excellent relationship. With over 20+ years banking experience I am able to help my clients prepare for the unknown, both business owners and individuals, while meeting their financial and business goals. In addition, guide them regarding meeting their risk tolerance and stand up against market volatility.

As my strap lines says “Business shouldn’t be a drama”

What advice would you give to someone starting out?

Simple – The client is the most important part of your business and having a good relationship with your clients and stakeholders is key.
