Getting To Know You: Rachel Vogeleisen, founder, creative director & photographer, The Elegant Brand

Rachel Vogeleisen,

What do you currently do?

I am the photographer and creative director for my company, The Elegant Brand. I work for brands that differentiate themselves by having a unique style and want to make their marketing message stand out by creating a compelling visual brand story.

What was the inspiration behind your business?

I am on a mission to help businesses stand out with distinctive branding. This also includes their visuals. A brand is not just a logo; it is a “promise to the customer” based on the experience you give them. Every element in branding must work together to create consistency, develop trust and enable businesses to connect with their ideal audience. If the message put out is consistent with every element in the branding a company will stand out as being unique and trustworthy.

What defines your way of doing business?

I don’t consider myself as just a photographer. I like to get involved in the whole creative process. I collaborate with my clients to create imagery for their business that will tell the story behind the brand. The power of storytelling is incredible and plays a large part in connecting with the right audience.

Who do you admire?

Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama – people who have a lot of grit and resilience.

Looking back is there anything you would of done differently?

I would have started my own business much earlier. Unfortunately for years I was riddled with fear about embarking on my own. Once you understand that fear stops you from making the right decisions you will discover the direction you should take becomes a lot more obvious.

What advice do you give someone starting out?

Follow your dreams, don’t give up. Remember you’re in it for the long run. It is important not to expect overnight success but, at the same time, always bear in mind that all your hard work will be worthwhile in the end!
