It may take a couple of extra cups of coffee to get going on the first Monday back after Christmas, but the new year is a time to sort out your plans for the year ahead and to create good habits.
If you’re struggling to get your head together here are six great quotes to give you a kick of motivation!
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truest satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs to me was the epitome of inspirational and innovative. His drive is well known, and whether you agree with his methods or not, there is no disputing the dent he created on the world.
“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle
As a prolific writer and polymath, Aristotle radically transformed most, if not all, areas of knowledge he touched. Research has found it can take up to 254 days to cement a habit so if you get started now by the end of the year excellence will be the norm.
“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” – Winston Churchill
A huge character and one of the greatest Britons in history, Winston Churchill had a rocky start. He scraped into the lowest class at school and failed the entrance exam to Sandhurst three times before being accepted in 1983.
“You do not lead by hitting people over the head. That’s assault, not leadership.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of The United States 1953-61
Dwight D. Eisenhower was Commander and Chief from 1953-1961 and during this time obtained a truce in Korea and worked incessantly to ease the tensions of the Cold War. The President proposed that the United States and Russia exchange blueprints of each other’s military establishments and “provide within our countries facilities for aerial photography to the other country.” The Russians greeted the proposal with silence, but were so cordial throughout the meetings that tensions relaxed.
“Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player.” – Bill Gates
Bill Gates needs no introduction however but it’s a quote that surprised me when I first read it. Gates had a little known mentor named Warren Buffet, and it seems his advice paid off!
Take note of advice and surround yourself with people that can help and push you to reaching your goals this year.
