Amit Bhatia named Young Entrepreneur of the Year

The London based businessman, who has a string of entrepreneurial successes to his name, fought off stiff competition from a number of high profile nominees.

The awards have been recognising Asian business achievement for 16 years, with Home Secretary Theresa May presenting Mr Bhatia with his accolade.

Bhatia began his career working in mergers and acquisitions at both Morgan Stanley in New York and Credit Suisse First Boston in London. He then incubated Swordfish Investments, a private equity fund, and Swordfish Capital Management, an investment management company. Investments included education, media, telecoms and financial services. In 2007 Amit bought a stake in Queens Park Rangers FC and currently serves as its Vice-Chairman as well as Chairman of QPR in the Community Trust. In 2010, Amit set up the Global Relief Initiative.

Hope Construction Materials, the independent supplier of concrete, cement, aggregates and asphalt, that Bhatia started at the start of this year has a workforce of more than 800, working across over 170 plants spread across Britain. Even in the short space of time since the launch of the company, Hope Construction Materials has won several key contracts and is aiming for further growth and success this year.

Speaking about this award Bhatia said: “It is a great, unexpected honour and I am delighted, especially given the wealth of talented Asian entrepreneurs in this country. I guess I am like other entrepreneurs in always looking for an exciting new challenge and I have found that with Hope Construction Materials. The quality of our people and the level of service we are determined to offer makes me confident for the future. Our first few months have been very encouraging.”

Kalpesh Solanki, Managing Editor of the Asian Media & Marketing Group that organises the awards said: “The Asian Business Awards recognise and reward excellence in business. Organised and hosted by the Asian Media & Marketing Group, the awards are in their 16th year. Amit is an outstanding winner having achieved great success in both business and his community work. He is a model for aspiring entrepreneurs.”
